He went to the Crown auction looking for a cheap ladder. He came home with a condemned dungeon. Failed adventurer Perrin Holt has eleven gold crowns, a career that has gone thoroughly sideways, and no sensible reason to bid on Hollow Rock Dungeon. But when the abandoned F-rated property falls to one gold coin, Perrin takes the risk. Unfortunately, the bargain includes three broken rooms, failing masonry, a dangerous underground spring, an irregular dungeon Core, two neglected monster residents, and exactly thirty days to make the place safe enough to survive Crown inspection. His new dungeon staff are not especially reassuring. Grib, the long-suffering goblin maintenance worker, has six years of ignored repair requests. Mottle, the resident mimic, would very much prefer a career that does not involve adventurers hitting it with swords. And Kip, Hollow Rock's cracked and increasingly opinionated Core, considers "continued structural existence" a perfectly respectable feature. Perrin cannot afford deadly monsters, spectacular traps, or piles of enchanted treasure. If Hollow Rock is going to survive, he will have to build a different kind of dungeon. Puzzles instead of slaughter. Exploration instead of endless combat. Useful treasure instead of glittering junk. Better homes and jobs for the monsters who actually live there. Against all common sense, it starts to work. Visitors return. The dungeon gains levels. New upgrades unlock. Broken rooms become real challenges. A strange little team begins turning Hollow Rock into something adventurers might actually choose to visit twice. But successful dungeon management brings problems of its own. More visitors mean more wear, more expenses, more responsibility... and more chances to discover that parts of Hollow Rock are far older and stranger than Perrin's one-gold property deed suggested. And the deeper he digs into his dungeon's past, the less certain he is that dungeons were ever meant to work the way everyone thinks they do. I Bought a Dungeon for One Gold Coin is a humorous dungeon-building LitRPG and progression fantasy packed with dungeon management, upgrades, puzzle design, practical problem-solving, monster coworkers, found family, an evolving dungeon Core, and extremely questionable magical real estate. If you like watching a hopeless property become a thriving dungeon one clever upgrade at a time, enter Hollow Rock.
