I Shall Audit the Heavens

Other cultivators vow to defy the Heavens. Lin intends to audit them. In his last life, Lin investigated industrial accidents. Now he is a mediocre outer disciple in the Crimson Furnace Sect, learning to command fire in a body that can barely withstand it. His fellow disciples consider scorched meridians a sign of ambition. Lin would prefer a second opinion. When a training accident exposes faults nobody wants examined, Lin starts following the warning signs. Damaged equipment. Suspect pills. Records that disagree with the injuries. Learning to control his own fire might keep him alive. Finding out why other disciples keep getting hurt could save his friends. But the officials who control the evidence also decide whether his warnings deserve a hearing. Every accusation needs proof, and a mistake could put an innocent disciple in the firing line. Meanwhile, the pills are still being handed out. His friends are still expected to train. And some of these accidents are beginning to look deliberate. The sect calls it the price of cultivation. Lin intends to find out who is making everyone else pay.
