The first harvest is in. Eli Mercer isn’t done growing. This winter he wants a small basket of fresh greens every week through the coldest stretch. He has a row of frostleaf, a few pots on his windowsill, part of a greenhouse bench, and five emberheart squash that soak up sun by day and give the warmth back after dark. Kept whole, they’re his heaters. Cooked, each one feeds somebody once. June has rented a front room for a bakery of her own, though its oven doesn’t work yet. She’d like his greens in her soup, when there are greens. His Grower skills are changing with the season. Banked Heat makes a squash’s stored warmth last until morning, and a sharper Plant Read can tell a stalled plant from a recovering one. Neither can make more daylight. Then the village kitchen’s big stove cracks on a freezing morning, and the man who can mend it has two hands and two jobs. June’s oven is the other one. A week without sun stalls everything on Eli’s bench. And June’s opening day isn’t moving. Winter Lights is Book Two of Creekbend Farm, a cozy post-apocalyptic LitRPG about one cold season of small harvests, slow repairs, and learning which promises you can keep. Inside you’ll find: • A gentle Grower profession that keeps leveling through real work • Winter growing with grass mats, salvaged glass, and a box of saved seed waiting for spring • A small-town bakery opening, and a baker who won’t promise more than she can bake • A village that shares its stove, its bread, and its opinions • A slow-burn romance, finally said out loud • No grimdark, no gore, and no monsters at the door
